Restart – Refresh – Delete
October 2010, is here, in all its glory - hazy, lazy, days of summer heat. The tenth month of the year 2010.
We have a choice: whether to restart, or refresh or to delete aspects of our life. Or we can just carry on and be surprised at the end of the yea,r that nothing much changed in our lives, for better or worse.
It is time to look the year in the eye and declare what you wan,t for the remaining three months. Economically, things were sludgy slow and the uptake was not there. In fact Zambia hit the tail end of the credit crunch. A year or even 18 months is too short a time to be able to make significant improvements. Everything seems to be going faster, or is it my imagination? Two months today I celebrate my birthday. I always review my year, from about now and want to make sure, that I am on track.
How many plans are half started or ideas lying idle this year. Just pick one to restart and delete the rest. The clutter of half finished projects take up space in your mind let alone your desk. While you are at it have a spring clean in your office.
Have you reviewed your lifestyle and are you living beyond your means. How are you going to refresh and ensure that by year end you and your family have a plan in place. There is something very comforting,t as a couple talking and come up with a compromise and suitable way forward. Its not for ever that you may need to downgrade on home and car: stack up your options. Rather have enough mon, to cover all expenses, without taking loans or borrowing from friends and foe.
We can’t have everything in life and the bitter reality is, that you have to sacrifice to meet your basic needs. You cannot be in the pub three times a week and still pay for school fees and uniforms in November, ready for January 2011 in take. What would happen if you were prepared ahead of time?
I have twin sisters, Susan and Diane, they are 13 months younger than me. As children their passion was swimming in the new pool at home and climbing a tree house at a friend’s. Mine was going to Brownies (junior Girl Guides) and reading books. They thought that this was so boring. We laughed the other evening, whilst reminiscing about childhood and summer time. Brownies and Girl Guides motto is, ‘Be prepared.’ I have lost this for a while and will press, refresh, and bring it back into my life. We really have to ensure that our basic security and life is prepared for adequately. No one else can do it for us. The circumstances around our lives differ and honestly no one has a perfect set. We have our personality and characteristics and as we get older, we need to review and press ,delete, on all the old habits, that don’t add value.
Work has always been my hobby and my life. I can think of nothing more exciting than to work. Recently, I have been thinking about how I loved proof reading and editing, Chibamba Kanyama’s new book. With the age of the , I am going to pursue, on line editing and proofing. Send my your manuscripts, proposals and books and I will edit and proof read them. Not for free but for a fee!
One of the women I admire is Jacqueline Kennedy, the former First Lady and wife of the 35th President of the United States of America, Jack Kennedy who was assassinated. Later on she married the Greek tycoon – Onassis. After being widowed , she became a book editor. This interests me. Jacquie ‘O’ as she was known affectionately, died at the age of 64 years.
Being involved in every aspect of your life and then looking at it from a distance, helps you decide on what to delete, refresh and restart. I am ready to wield the sword and delete 90 percent of things that are not working. Maybe I am getting mellow – I may just restart or refresh instead. After all I have done a lot of ground work .
I know I am lucky, to be transformed and captivated by books, stories, real life events and not forgetting the essential daily cuppa chino at Mint Cafe. And now homemade Mint Lemonade.
Mint Cafe, has been my dail, sanity refuge. When all else failed, I made my way there to refresh.
Even though things are far from what I planned for 2010, I am sure with a bit of adjustment here and there and a huge dollop of faith and prayer, I will celebrate my December birthday, with glee. 2011 watch out I am going to get you! Big Time.
